We specialize in the treatment of lymphedema after surgeries where the lymphatic system has been damaged or lymph nodes have been removed.
Lymphatic drainage is a series of gentle and painless techniques aimed at supporting the lymphatic system in removing fluid and waste products. In people who have had lymph nodes removed or damaged, this natural process can be disrupted, resulting in lymphedema (a swollen body part).
Lymphedema can occur after any surgery, but the most common causes are surgeries related to breast cancer or prostate cancer. The body can no longer efficiently drain lymph fluid, leading to swelling, tightness, and sometimes pain in the affected area. A specialized lymphatic drainage treatment helps reduce these symptoms and prevent further complications.
In our practice, we have many years of experience treating patients with lymphedema, both in the acute phase after surgery and with long-term complaints. We use manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), compression therapy, and customized exercise therapy, depending on your situation.
Air travel, long car journeys, or temperature changes can affect a lymphoedema that was stable until then. These factors can lead to a sudden worsening, even if the situation at home was well controlled.
When the swelling increases during your stay, it often requires extra effort from your physiotherapist at home to stabilize the situation again. Early intervention can prevent this.
Our practice is located in Mijas and is easily accessible from Fuengirola, Benalmádena and Marbella. The Costa del Sol is a popular destination for tourists and seasonal residents. It is therefore not uncommon for us to be asked to temporarily take over ongoing treatments from colleagues in the UK, Ireland or other countries.
Our goal is for you to continue enjoying your stay on the coast — without worries about your health. Whether you are temporarily in the region or live here, we are happy to assist you with expert and personalized care.
