Orthopaedic Manual Therapy at the Costa del Sol

Orthopaedic Manual Therapy combines clinical expertise with effective hands-on techniques to relieve pain, stiffness, or joint restrictions – especially in the spine and pelvis, but also in other joints such as shoulders, hips, or knees.

What is Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (OMT)?

Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (OMT) is a four-year master programme following a degree in physiotherapy. It focuses on identifying and resolving movement restrictions, joint misalignments, and spinal dysfunctions. While the emphasis is often on the alignment and mobility of the spine and pelvis, all joints can be treated effectively.

Using specific techniques such as manual mobilisations and manipulations (sometimes referred to as “cracking”), the natural movement of joints is restored. Spinal adjustments and joint alignment are central to OMT practice.

Although Orthopaedic Manual Therapy shares many similarities with chiropractic care – such as spinal alignment and vertebral adjustments – it also targets the surrounding muscles and connective tissues to restore the body’s overall balance and stability. This approach not only relieves pain and improves mobility, but also enhances overall function and posture.

The results are often noticeable immediately: reduced pain, increased freedom of movement, and better alignment.

What complaints can Orthopaedic Manual Therapy help with?

Orthopaedic Manual Therapy is effective for treating the following conditions:

  • Back pain, including sciatica and herniated/slipped discs
  • Pelvic and hip pain, joint misalignment, or movement limitations
  • Neck and shoulder pain or stiffness, with or without radiating symptoms
  • Cervicogenic headaches (originating from the neck)
  • Dizziness or vertigo caused by neck dysfunction
  • Joint stiffness, reduced mobility, or a feeling of blockage

These symptoms often stem from joint misalignment or restricted movement and can be treated effectively through spinal adjustments, manual mobilisation, and posture correction techniques.

OMT can also provide relief for chronic or recurring complaints.

Expertise within our practice

In our clinic in Mijas and now also in El Morche (Torre del Mar), you will receive personal care from an experienced orthopaedic manual therapist with international training. Together, we create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your symptoms, physical condition, and mobility needs.

We take the time for a detailed intake session, physical examination, and a clear explanation of the proposed treatment approach.
